The body of a modern soprano clarinet is equipped with numerous tone holes of which seven (six front, one back) are covered by the fingertips and the rest are opened or closed using a complicated set of keys. The actual lowest concert pitch depends on the transposition of the instrument in question. In the past, guest artists of the woodwind area have included: With the head section pushed all the way in, it's possible to play the flute at 440 pitch or a shade below, but it's certain it was built to be used (with head pulled a couple of millimeters) at 435 pitch. Nickel plate to the keywork is very good, with no wear spots anywhere, no cracks to the wood.

It has all new pads and corks from our shop in Wichita. The most obvious different feature that you can even see from far away are four levers for the little finger on the lower joint of the Boehm instrument, whereas the German system has got two wide, silverplated flat fingerrests with Ebony rolls to slide forward and back. The resulting pressure and air motion vibrations are shown in the right hand diagram. However, if you’re a more advanced player, you’ll definitely want to look into a clarinet made of wood, as these are a truer representation of the instrument’s sound.

Now, because it spreads out in all directions its pressure falls very quickly to nearly atmospheric pressure (the air outside is at atmospheric pressure). It's played the same way a flute is, but makes higher pitched sounds (one octave higher). The lacquer finish looks good, and we don't think the instrument has been heavily buffed. The A and the B♭ instruments have nearly identical tonal quality, although the A will generally have a slightly warmer sound.

Later in the century, the field of Italian opera was dominated by Giuseppe Verdi, while German opera was virtually monopolized by Richard Wagner. Serial number's been scratched off, but from the address engraved on the bell, we do know when it was made. Then the tone hole positions for the lower scale should be different from that of the upper scale, especially their diameter. Altus model 1107RB is the closest to the 1007RB that's now being sold in the USA (.958 solid silver rather than .925), with current selling price of $5950.
